Spec skis are similar to surfskis, but are built to be more rugged and manoeuvrable than their downwind cousins. Due to the extra durability, they’re often slightly heavier than surfskis. Spec skis are commonly seen in Surf Life Saving and are designed to handle breaking waves and larger swell. The bow of a spec ski is the defining feature. It is more aggressive and upturnt than a surfski, perfect for crashing headfirst into oncoming waves.
